Update:

Added:

KB2393802-v5 <- WildBill's kernel patch
KB2508429-v3 <- SMB Server patch (requires KB2393802)
KB978706-v3 (PLK) <- there was a bug in the Polish version of v2; the English v2 is correct

Removed:

KB935839-v5a - replaced by KB2393802-v5
KB978706-v2 (PLK) - replaced by KB978706-v3 (PLK)
MSRDP7 - RDP 7 doesn't work. I actually asked someone to test it before uploading and that person said it worked O.K. so I thought there was everything all right with it. A few days ago I wanted to use it and it was then that I realised that it doesn't work properly. RDP 5.2 is the last version of MS RDP working on Windows 2000. I'm very sorry for this. It is my fault that I didn't test it myself in the very beginning. The problem is that you can open the program but remote connection itself does not work.

Thank you for kind words Smile

Unfortunately the 2288621 update I added today seems to be problematic. It started to cause many strange graphical glitches on my system so I uninstalled it and everything went back to normal state. I want to recommend sticking to 981322 at the moment and not using 2288621. I won't remove it now as I don't know if the problem is related only to my system or if the file is generally incompatible with Windows 2000.

By the way, the newest version of Paint.NET (v3.5.10) works perfectly under Windows 2000 if you have .NET Framework 3.5 + WildBill's kernel installed. You can't use the official installer though but you need to either make an msi version (/createmsi switch) or use a switchless installer available here. Actually I got a BSOD at the end of the installation process but the program was installed nevertheless and everything seems to work fine after reboot. Oh, and if you want to use /createmsi switch you need to do it under a different system as it won't run under Win2k Surprised

I decided to reorganise the list radically and so I have just done Smile

I removed all updates which are already listed on the bristols' updates list. I left only updates which are not listed there (yet?) and those which are available in other languages than English as bristols lists only English / multilanguage updates.

As you can see, the list has become significantly shorter Wink I believe there's no need to have the same updates here and there as it only brings confusion to people looking for unofficial updates.

I've also prepared a few new updates.

Added:

MDAC 2.81 HBR Rollup - 950982, 960071 & 961451 combined into an update rollup
Script 5.8 (v2) - updated jscript.dll to the newest version
953024,970063 - two new HBRs as one update (files overlap each other)
959334 - a new HBR
971913 - a new HBR for MSI 3.1
2584146 - updated version of packager.exe from Jan 2012 Security Bulletin; available in 24 languages
2603381 - update from Jan 2012 Security Bulletin (registry fix only)

Removed:

960071,961451 - merged into one rollup together with 950982
Script 5.8 - replaced by Script 5.8 (v2)

At this moment unfortunately no Sad You can use HFSLIP to integrate them directly or just the /integrate switch to install them from SVCPACK. nLite also works in most cases.

I'm going to make an unofficial Service Pack (USP6) which will be integrable directly through the /integrate switch. There'll be at least two versions of it - a basic one covering only official updates and available in all 24 supported languages and an enhanced one which will probably be only in English and cover both official & unofficial updates/hotfixes. I've been collecting updates/hotfixes for it but it'll take a lot of time to get them all (24 languages per each update). I've already downloaded about 1700 updates but there are at least a few thousands more to go ^^:

I myself use HFSLIP to slipstream them.

Hi all,

following the work of WildBill, Tomasz86, Blackwingcat and Bristols
I made few unofficial updates and addons for Windows 2000.

1) IE6.0sp1-KB834158-v2-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe,
download: http://ifile.it/wm7ospb/IE6.0sp1-KB834158-v2-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe

In Bristols list, http://bristols.zxq.net/windows2000/updates/#kb834158
this HF needs a reg.file. I added this reg.fix to the hotfix.

2) Windows2000-UU-KB831375-v2-x86-ENU.exe
download: http://www.mediafire.com/?dbbkoog2ofm5yad

In Bristols list,
http://bristols.zxq.net/windows2000/updates/#kb831375
http://bristols.zxq.net/windows2000/updates/#kb873437
KB831375 must be installed together with KB873437.
I merged both in only one file.

3) Windows2000-UU-KB884872-x86-v2-ENU.exe
download: http://www.mediafire.com/?rr93hh2aa1rkz95

In Bristols list, http://bristols.zxq.net/windows2000/updates/#kb884872
there is the description for manual installation of KB884872.
I created Kb884872-v2 for easy installation, no need to unpack file.

4) Windows2000-UU-KB973904-v3-x86-ENU.exe
download: http://www.mediafire.com/?2cqpi3yf1za6i17

I combined in only one file KB973904-v2 & KB921606.
No need to put Msconv97.dll (2003.1100.8202.0) in REPLACE folder.
http://bristols.zxq.net/windows2000/updates/#kb973904-v2
http://bristols.zxq.net/windows2000/updates/#kb921606

5) KB983234 removed.

6) I found that 2 hotfixes for WMP9 are not needed.
- Windows2000-WindowsMedia-KB968816-x86-ENU.exe contains wmvcore.dll 9.0.0.3362, but Windows2000-WindowsMedia-KB978695-x86-ENU.exe has wmvcore.dll 9.0.0.3369
- WindowsMedia64-KB954600-x86-ENU.exe contains: logagent.exe (4.1.0.3937) & strmdll.dll (4.1.0.3937). But Windows2000-WindowsMedia-KB952069-x86-ENU.exe has logagent.exe (9.0.0.3358), while WindowsMedia64-KB974112-x86-ENU.exe has strmdll.dll (4.1.0.3938).

Regards.

Good Day tomasz86,

I have an issue with your unoffical update 971913 when using HFSLIP.

If I put the update in HF folder I get the follwing error when installing a msi:

http://www.filesonic.com/file/frJzYbT

If I put it in HFSVCPACK_SW1 everything installs correctly.

Is this your experience? Is HFSVCPACK_SW1 the correct location?

My2GirlsDad

P.S.: All the other updates installed without incident.

Thank you very much, acus, for these updates Smile

As for 983234 there exist newer Msvbvm60.dll coming from 2575928. Would it be a problem for you to update the existing one and rename the update to (UU-HBR-)KBz2575928?

Quote:

Good Day tomasz86,

I'll have to test it but it may be the same issue as with 896414 which means that it can't be directly slipstreamed. If it is so then nothing can be done about about it Sad and HFSVCPACK_SW1 is the only option.

By the way, I prepared a XPS / WIC Full Pack which is inspired by this addon originally made by Yumeyao and updated by ricktendo64. It's not the same as not all files are supported in Windows 2000 (especially the newest versions coming from W7 are usually not). I also added WIC and XPS Viewer. Full info is available at the first page.

Windows2000-XPSWIC-x86-Global.exe (HFSVCPACK_SW1)

WildBill's kernel is requried.

@EDIT

I forgot to tell you that I'll be extremely busy starting from this week so I'm probably off for around 1 month. I don't think I'll be able to prepare any new updates during that time Sad

Hi Tomasz86

here is the new hotfix for 2575928.
I created hotfix for Msvbvm60.dll 6.0.98.32.
No need to put Msvbvm60.dll in REPLACE folder.

http://www.mediafire.com/?vz3la3is5f90twc

I made separate addon for Msconv97.dll (2003.1100.8202.0) coming from KB921606
http://www.mediafire.com/?zb2oozmd1i3bnd7

Tomasz, I tried your XPS update. How to install XPS Printer in W2K?
I can found the XPS viewer but not the printer.

Regards.

You cannot Embarassed The printer should be installed when installing XPS drivers... I'll need to once again start from the beginning with this pack. For now I marked it as "experimental".

By the way, thank you for all these updates once again. It's good to see another person interested in supporting Win2k Smile

Thanks, acus Smile

In case of 2585542 BlackWingCat modified the original schannel.dll from W2K but you can also use XP's files directly if you've got WildBill's kernel installed. I personally think that it's a better option as it won't be necessary to rely on someone's patching them but rather we'll be able to continue using XP's files in the future too, when they're patched again.

Hi Tomasz86,

I apologize for the mess I created.
I didnt know about the xp file compatibility.
During my internet browsing I found the files of Blackwingcat and I tought to repack them.

I edited my previous post and renamed file as W2K-BWC-KBz2585542-x86-ENU.exe and posted new link.

If needed I can rename also other files (2631813, 2598479)

Regards.

I didn't mean to offend you in any way Smile so please don't get upset because of what I wrote.

It's just a different approach - updating original 2K files vs. using XP files directly. In my opinion, if we had ex. 10 or more people working at modifying original system files then it's not a problem to do it but in the current situation there are only two (BlackWingCat & WildBill) so using XP files when possible is probably the best way to choose.

Actually I already prepared my version of 2585542 more than one week ago but originally planned to wait for some time before releasing it to be sure that there are no compatibility issues.

Windows2000-UU-KBz2585542-x86-Global.exe

In case of 2631813 the files used are the XP ones so no difference here and in case of 2598479 the XP files are not compatible with W2K so using BlackWingCat's ones is the only option Smile

By the way, did you modify the file date in your updates? All of them are dated 26 Jan 2012. Did you use something to process (& modify) all of them, ex. modifype.exe?

Hi Tomasz,

no problem at all.
I'm happy to talk with you and to learn more things.('Razz')

About the date, I unpack the files of Blackwingcat, so I think this is the mod ified date.

Later today, I will check better and eventually reupload files with right version.

Thanks again.

Hmm, how do you pack these files?

BlackWingCat's files are:

Code:

mciseq.dll 2012-01-14  10:23a
winmm.dll 2012-01-14  10:23a

and yours are

Code:

mciseq.dll 2012-01-27  02:53p
winmm.dll 2012-01-27  02:53p

Of course the date will be different depending on your time zone but still it's easy to see the difference Surprised The files themselves are identical, it's only the date that is different.

How do you pack this updates?? Do you use the WildBill's manual (cabarc + MSCF.sfx)?

@acus, if you've made no actual changes to the files, since tomasz86 says the files are identical, then you could probably use one of the various utilities that allow you to edit the file's date to be what WildBill had, or for that matter just use WildBill's files. Why change them at all if they are identical? I'm confused.

Cheers and Regards

I believe that something's going on when acus compresses them once again into an SFXCAB archive.

Hi Tomasz & Bphlpt,

I think I found the answer.

To create the file .cab I used until now Dxtool (from Onepiece work):
http://www.wincert.net/forum/index.php?/topic/7702-dxtool/page__view__findpost__p__71593.

If I use this tool, the date of the files is changed.
Instead if I use cabarc the date is correct.

I upload again the files with correct date and edited the link in my previous post.

Tomasz thanks for your highlight.

In Blackwingcat repository there is a file (Windows2000-KB935839-v10-x86-JPN.exe) that contain WTSAPI32.dll 5.0.2134.3.

Do you think we can use only this file from Windows2000-KB935839-v10-x86-JPN.exe, considering that Wildbill create new version for kernel32.dll?

Regards

It's good that finding the reason for date changing was quite easy Smile

I don't really know about the WTSAPI32.dll from BWC's 935839. What new APIs does it implement? Is it really needed when WB kernel is used?

wtsapi32.dll 5.0.2134.3 has three new APIs added:

WTSQueryUserToken
WTSRegisterSessionNotification
WTSUnRegisterSessionNotification

I think it might be a good idea just to add this file to the already working BWC's kernel v5a Smile

By the way, to check differences you can just open one file in Dependency Walker, copy API list to clipboard and paste it into a text file. You do the same to the other file and then the only thing to do is to compare the two text files to find differences. I use KDiff3 to compare files/folders.

Hi Tomasz,

I will try Dependency Walker.

By the way, wtsapi32.dll 5.1.2600.5512 from XP SP3 seems to work in Win2k too. I don't know if it requires unofficial kernel but I'm going to more extensive tests later on. Anyway, I'm using it at this moment and no errors so far. Ah, I almost forgot to mention that you must use XP's winsta.dll with it to fix one dependency problem.

Actually I think the three APIs listed by BlackWingCat are the only ones missing in the original one when you compare 2K's and XP's wtsapi32.dlls, so BWC's wtsapi32.dll seems to be exactly the same as the XP one (when it comes to supported APIs).

XP files which seem to work in 2K:

comctl32.dll (but not compatible with KBz2479628!!)
msvcrt.dll
msvcirt.dll
winsta.dll
wtsapi32.dll (requires XP winsta.dll)
ws2_32.dll

XP files which DO NOT work in 2K:

crypt32.dll
dbghelp.dll
iphlpapi.dll
gdi32.dll
shlwapi.dll
urlmon.dll (IE6 SP2)

tomasz86,

I tried to slipstream this update with HFSLIP and received the following errors upon first startup.

First Error
Second Error after hitting ok
Third Error after hitting ok

Also, internet explorer is not installed as you can see from my desktop view here.

FYI, I was able to slipstream acus's W2K-BWC-KBz2585542-x86-ENU.exe with no issues.

Good Day tomasz86,

I have an issue with your unoffical update 971913 when using HFSLIP.

If I put the update in HF folder I get an error when installing a msi:

If I put it in HFSVCPACK_SW1 everything installs correctly.

Is this your experience? Is HFSVCPACK_SW1 the correct location?

After a few more tests I found out that this update breaks anything installed after it until the machine is rebooted. After reboot windows installer works fine. Due to this situation the hotfix should be the last item in HFSVCPACK_SW2. If its not the last item anything installed after it will not install correctly.

Appreciate all you do and hope this helps make your "programs" work better.

My2GirlsDad,

Could you check file version of your advapi32.dll? It'd also be very helpful if you provide your HFSLIP log Smile I'm asking about advapi32.dll because CredFree was added to advapi32.dll in WildBill's 2508429.

It's strange because in case of 2585542 I did test it here (both in running system & HFSLIP+VM) and no problems occurred. I'll try to have a look at 971913 once again.

By the way, please use PNG/JPG for images if possible Wink

I will post images in JPG in the future. Sorry for the inconvience.

tomasz86,

The version of ADVAPI32.dll is v5.0.2195.6968. After some research I've found that is the version in asus's update Windows2000-UU-KB884872-x86-v2-ENU.exe.

Here's the info for each:

Windows2000-UU-KB884872-x86-v2-ENU.exe:
ADVAPI32.dll v5.0.2195.6968 Date Modified: 12/5/11

Windows2000-KBz2508429-v6-x86-ENU.exe:
ADVAPI32.dll v5.0.2195.7042 Date Modified: 11/26/11

Is the reason it's not slipstream correctly the date modified?

Thank You.

I'm sure that that's the reason why you see these errors related to advapi32.dll. Acus used Dxtool which changed file dates and HFSLIP slipstreams files newer by date :/

It's a pain but the best way to overcome it would be that acus remake his previous updates. At this moment you should just use bristols' way of manual installation of KB884872.

Anyway, it seems that my version of 2585542 requires 2508429 to work.

Thank you tomasz86 and acus, everything works great now with the exception of 971913 which will remain in HFSVCPACK_sw2 until you find the solution.

Appreciate your quick response to this. I know you are busy with other things.

I found out that BWC's 2585542 doesn't contain new or modified version of schannel.dll but rather the old one from the official 960225.

I quickly prepared a v2 of my 2585542. I included registry changes from 960225 & 960803 so it supersedes these two official updates. It requires 2508429.

I'm uploading MSFC.sfx in case someone wants to make sfxcab archives:

MSCF.sfx 6.1.22.4

Tutorial by WildBilll:
Quote:

11. Replace update\update.exe with one from any of the releases I uploaded -- mine will let you install an unsigned update, the one from MS won't.
12. Compress your files:

cabarc -m LZX:21 -p -r N ..\outfile.cab *.*

13. Patch the created .cab file so that it knows to execute update.exe. You'll need a hex editor for this (e.g. xvi32). Look for the update\update.exe entry toward the beginning of the file. Before it there should be a 20h byte. Change that to 60h which will flag it as an auto-execute file.
14. Prepend the MSCF.sfx file before the .cab file to make an installer:

copy /b MSCF.sfx + outfile.cab outfile.exe

15. Rename outfile.exe to something appropriate to the patch and language:

ren outfile.exe Windows2000-KB######-x86-XXX.exe

Of course you can use update.exe from any of the unofficial updates. It will be 2K/XP/2K3 compatible (x86 only).

I'm adding 4 updates:

IE6.0sp1-KB2482017-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe
Windows2000-KB2483185-x86-custom-ENU.EXE
Windows2000-KB2347290-x86-custom-ENU.EXE
MDAC281-KB983838-x86-ENU.exe

These are NOT unofficial updates. They are official M$ updates normally available only for companies who paid for custom support. These 4 files leaked on the Internet. There's also 2416400 available but it's replaced by 2482017 so I'm not uploading it here.

983838 for MDAC is the same update as 2419632 (MS11-002) for XP and the unofficial 2419632 made by WildBill.

Hi all,

1. A new update for notepad.exe (5.1.2600.5877):
Windows2000-UU-HBR-KB975791-x86-ENU.exe
http://www.mediafire.com/?1m25r3j1vu3169n

2. Repacked KB838018 to be slipstreamed correctly: FP40EXT.cab
http://www.mediafire.com/?p2ivhbnakbqlkqe
put file in folder HF\REPLACE\I386

3. Noticed that 2 hotfixes are obsolete:
908506 superseded by 961501
841151 superseded by 890188

4. Analized new HF for IE: KB2482017.
File mshtmled.dll is missed (the newer is from kbz2416400, Wildbill)
New file shlwapi.dll 6.0.2800.2012 breaks wordpad.exe patched by Wildbill. Better to use shlwapi.dll 6.0.2800.2008 from kbz2416400.

5. Following this discussion:
http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/155566-win2000-server-or-professional-or-both/

I think that following w2k server HF can work also for w2k pro:
843530 binlsvc.dll 5.0.2195.6944
970483 httpext.dll 5.0.2195.7290

Thanks acus Smile

I have a few comments:

1. The original KB975791 for XP/2K3 is no longer offered by M$. It may mean that the hotfix was buggy. I'd be very careful when using it.

2. I'd call it a supplement to KB838018.

4. That's right but I wouldn't say that it's "missing". Check official M$ update:

IE6.0sp1-KB2416400-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe

There's no mshtmled.dll in it. There's also no mshtmled.dll in 982381 (the last official IE cumulative update). It probably means that updating mshtmled.dll is not necessary in case of W2K.

As for shlwapi.dll, it'd be the best if WB updated his wordpad update basing on the newest version of shlwapi.dll.

Hi Tomasz,

thanks for your comments.

I found new notepad in user_hidden English Update pack for XP and in ricktendo spanish Update pack for XP. I didnt know it was buggy, I can remove it.

You are right about IE HF. I hope that WB uses new shwlapi for his wordpad.

Regards.

I don't know if it's buggy or not Wink but if it's included in both user_hidden's & ricktendo's packs then it should be fine.

I'm considering stopping realising single updates. I'd rather focus on a update rollup which would have all unofficial updates included. There are several benefits it:

1) Easy to manage and update.
2) Easy to test compatibility with different configurations of W2K (IE5, IE6, WB&BWC kernel, etc.).
3) Easy to install and slipstream (1 single package instead of tens/hundreds of single updates).
4) It's possible to add single files not belonging to any particular updates or files from XP SP3, etc.
5) Managing all these single updates is too time consuming.

Could anyone share his/her opinion on this idea?

Of course it'd be a temporary solution until I manage to finish the USP6 project (still LONG time to go...).
