5eraph's Windows XP x64 post-SP2 Update Pack
Version: 2013-06_1
Goal:This Update Pack satisfies, within reason, all high priority updates on the Microsoft Update website and includes some other useful updates. Details:- Intended for Windows XP x64 SP2, English.
- Does not include:
- Internet Explorer 7 or 8
- Windows Media Player 11
- .NET frameworks
- Windows Search 4.0
- Silverlight
- Includes a fix for the high priority KB901105 detection issue with the Microsoft Update website.
- All files are from the SP2QFE branch.
- Tested in VirtualBox 4.2.12 throughout development to ensure the proper integration of each update.
- Integrates with RyanVM Integrator 1.6 and nLite 1.4.9.1.
Credits:RyanVM, Siginet, nfm, boooggy, MrNxDmX, nuhi, n7Epsilon, Xable, TranceEnergy, Kurt_Aust, ricktendo64 Downloads:Notes:- The Microsoft Update website erroneously offers the December 2012 Root Certificates update package as an Optional Update when the May 2013 package is installed (KB931125). The current update pack includes the May 2013 package, which supersedes all previous packages.
- It has been reported that some antivirus products may interfere with RVMi and nLite 1.4.9.1 when integrating this update pack and others. nLite may throw one or more errors, including:
- "H-The process cannot access the file '<SourceDirectory>\SVCPACK.INF' because it is being used by another process."
- "CabLib Extract ERROR while extracting files from cabinet archive: Failure writing to target file"
If this occurs, please disable your antivirus product temporarily and try running nLite again on a fresh copy of your source.
Thank you, Kurt_Aust, for initially reporting and solving this problem with nLite and this update pack.
- Since pack v2012-03_2, Adobe Flash Player has the ability to self-update. Addons are now available to modify this behavior.
- An updated version of MSI.dll (KB2388997) has been included. Although I have performed some limited testing with this update, previous updates newer than KB967756 were known to cause problems when installing certain software. To revert to KB967756, please use the updated rollback installer or addon.
- Please see a previous release's bump post regarding blocked updates.
Updates Included:Note 1: Bulleted updates can be verified with QFECheck.
Note 2: Updates in yellow are added by the IE6 Update Addon.
Note 3: Updates in violet are added by the IE8 Addon.

Fixed Microsoft's cosmetic bug in KB977165:
| Microsoft wrote: | Known issues with this security update

- After you install this security update on a Windows Server 2003-based system, the security update may be incorrectly listed in the [registry] as "Update" for Windows [XP] (KB977165) instead of as "Security Update" for Windows [XP] (KB977165). Changed the time zone updating method to work around an IniParser issue with WMP11 Slipstreamer v1.4.2.0.- TimeZone.inf now contains only the changes applied to a fresh Windows XP x64 SP2 installation by the relevant time zone update package instead of a dump of the entire time zone registry key. This allows for the [HiveInfs.Fresh] section of TxtSetup.sif to be reorganized as is currently done by WMP11 Slipstreamer v1.4.2.0.
- This issue affects update pack versions 2009-11_2 through 2009-12_1. If anybody currently has time zone issues related to this, please contact me for instructions to correct them.
Added "www." to the Microsoft Update shortcut in the Start menu to work around a problem with Microsoft's security certificate.

so far I've been hung on the end of the 'installing devices' screen for like 5 minutes. heres to hoping it has nothing to do with the pack ;P
Nevermind, I reset vmware and from where it left off it was quick, no problem so far.

SWEET! Thanx 5eraph! You beat me to it. Big time. My pack had a few major issues with it. Glad to see you releasing yours. I'm gonna test it this weekend... or sooner if I can. _________________

You're welcome, everybody.
I'm not convinced that Windows Installer 4.5 is stable enough for inclusion yet, RickSteele. Believe me, I have been considering it.
Without your help, Siginet, it never would have been released. Thank you. Thanks for hosting too. |

i think youre my hero.
2 quick questions: first does MS update report any needed updates? second is there anything not included in your pack that is listed here? i know IE7, WMP11, windows installer 4.5 and the non-integrating updates arent included... |

I saw your list, runningfool87, but I decided to start from a fresh SP2 install and check the Microsoft Update site for a smaller list.
The only high priority update listed on a clean install is Internet Explorer 7. The only optional updates given are WMP11, the dotNETs, and Silverlight.
The following updates on your list did not make it in the pack. Reasons are given for each.KB921503 - Directly superseded by KB943055 which is in the pack.
KB923789 - Superseded by Adobe Flash v9.0.124.0, which is in the pack.
KB923845 - It does not appear as an update on WU/MU for me. I was not aware of it.
KB931836 - Directly superseded by KB942763, which is also on your list and in the pack.
KB932596 - Superseded by KB942835 and KB952244. Both of these are in the pack.
KB933729 - Superseded by KB952145, which is in the pack.
KB936357 - This update seems to be specific to certain Intel processors. All three of my machines here are AMD, with the exception of a couple of unused motherboards at the moment.
KB942288 - Waiting on more feedback before further consideration, as stated above. The following updates listed as nonintegrable on your list are included in the pack:KB890830 - Malicious Software Removal Tool v1.41
KB943729 - Group Policy Preference Client Side Extensions
Adobe Flash v9.0.124.0 for Internet Explorer (32-bit) |

I already integrated WI 4.5 into mine. When you decide to, don't dismiss the msimsg.dll.mui files, otherwise you'll end up with some blank dialogs if they're missing (English is system32\mui\0409 AFAIK). WI 3.1 doesn't appear to have had any MUI files. _________________ All of my addons: http://redxii.siginetsoftware.com/ |

Your link is 32-bit....trust me, LOL, I really put my system through hell and this is a good 64-bit update....no errors or complications...that said, man I am soooo glad you did this...waiting for a new graphics card, tomorrow at the latest, and then I will be doing a fresh realtime install...of course using this excellent pack and can hardly wait....may a thousand rivers of good fortune stream to your ocean!
and let's not forget runningfool's excellent effort to keep a database of updates |

I'm looking into WI 4.5 as well as a couple I missed from runningfool87's list. If there's time over the weekend then I'll try to get them in for Patch Tuesday's update.
His effort in keeping that list up to date can't be denied. I owe him thanks as well. |

The problem is that for x64 there are usually twice as many files; one set for system32 and another set for SysWOW64. I'm looking at around 80 files, give or take. This will take some time... |

My pc has an x64 compatible cpu and is running windows xp x64 as OS.
Hope you guys can help me so i can test my xp x64 install disk which i tweaked and also test out this pack. |

Try VMware Server, Fanatic. It will handle an x64 guest OS regardless of the host machine type.

Downloaded the VMware server, but its still not working, it says the host cpu doesnt have 64bit support.
Could it be because my cpu doesnt have Intel VT? |

Intel VT shouldn't matter. Neither should AMD-V (aka Pacifica). My somewhat older processors have neither and it still works.
I can vouch personally for v1.0.3 running XP x64 within 32-bit XP. That's what I used to have a look at XP x64 before making the switch. I no longer have that version and I'm no longer running 32-bit XP, so I don't know what may have changed in the interim. |

Somebody at Microsoft has a sense of humor. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into this.

It's good to see that I wasn't the only one that made the association.
Finally testing a build that includes KB942288.

Strange. I just successfully installed XP x64 with this pack integrated using nLite v1.4.5.5 (or whatever the very latest silent update is) in VMWare Workstation v6.03 build 80004, all integrated and hosted on Vista Ultimate SP1 x86. I haven't tried it hosted on XP x86 yet though.
I have an Athlon 64 x2 4400+, what kind is yours? Also, is your XP x86 Home or Pro?
Gads, I've got to read posts more carefully. Forgot you said you were hosting on x64.
I blame 5eraph!
Okay, is your XP x64 currently running SP2 (no idea if that's a requirement of VMWare)? _________________ Gigabyte case GZ-FA2CA-AJB

The update pack bombed using nlite to do all the honors. Flash, MS Malware and a host of other updates did not install; according to MS update.
I slipstream WMP11 and IE7 along with all WMP11 updates recommended by Boooggy and both IE7 updates; nothing was removed and the latest Intel drivers were integrated.
I think the IE7 and/or WMP11 slipstreaming may be the fly in the ointment so to speak. The update pack was slipstreamed first before all else.
I will in the near future try it with Integrator and nlite. |

| Integration of KB890830 only involves registry entries, which suggests that either 5erUpPck.inf is missing or is not being called from SYSOC. Something is interfering with my INF. |

| Hmmm, I will try with Integrator, and use nlite afterwards to slipstream/tweak what Integrator doesn't....sometime next weekend and report back. |

Hmmm... I just did a test... Allthough it may be an issue on my end. I have been testing a lot of utilities latley that create boot patrtitions and such. So when I boot up I get an option to boot into acronis recovery manager then First Defense Recovery. I haven't had a chance to rule these out as possible causes for my error yet.
Just want to note that during the txtmode setup stage while it was copying files over my computer suddenly started asking for my Windows XP SP2 disk. I could not get it to finish because of this.
I also was using some cd's I have never used... so it could be possible it was a media issue.
Nevermind... the issue was caused by my Beta version of RVM Integrator v1.5.4. _________________

I couldn't wait, so I made a fresh ISO using Integrator for your update pack, Boooggy's WMP11 slipstreamer from within Integrator along with all the WMP11 updates he recommends, and nlite for the rest-perfect, no errors, MS update reports all up to date; I install all the .NET runtimes from runonce.
Very, very nice 5eraph, thanks |

Glad to hear it, RickSteele. Believe it or not, I hadn't gotten around to testing the WMP11 Slipstreamer yet with the Update Pack. I'm happy that it's working for you.
I haven't seen that happen yet, Siginet. If you can narrow down the cause it would be greatly appreciated. I've also sent you a PM. |

Oh, and also, the following are slipstreamed with nlite after WMP11 and hotfixes via Boooggy from within Integrator:
msxml4-KB936181-enu - Vulnerability in Microsoft XML-KB936227_KB936181 (I require it for Office 2003)
KB936782 - MS07-047 - WMP11
KB938127 - MS07-050 - Vector Markup Language (IE7)
KB941569 - MS07-068 - Windows Media file format (WMP11)
KB947864 - MS08-024 - Internet Explorer 7 - Cumulative
order is:
using Integrator
The 5eraph update pack
The Booogy's WMP11 and all the hotfixes he lists on his webpage
using nlite
IE7 (listed first in the pecking order along with both updates/hotfixes for IE7 immediately after)
drivers, the balance of the updates listed above with the exception of the WMP11 specific ones-done by Boooggy's app, any removals, tweaks etc.
I found you must enable driver cab merging in nlite, and perhaps disable high compression-not sure on the last one in order for all to play nice.
The WMP11 Slipstreamer works really well, but, let it also do all the updates, hotfixes too at the same time; nlite is hit and miss on this I've found; Boooggy's app does this much better for me anyways.
Well, that's it for now; gonna' go play some DODs....LOL
Thanks again 5eraph! |

I created a fresh ISO using all of the updates/hotfixes you have listed, including those "to be added" plus corrected that comma error in the update pack's inf; they all slipstream/integrate beautifully using nlite 1.4.6 and Boooggy 1.3.1.0 (for WMP11).
.......awesome 5eraph, very, very nice. |

Thanks for the high praise, RickSteele.
I'll release what I have if anybody wants it. I was only holding out so it wouldn't seem that I was "overdeveloping" the pack. I don't like releasing more than once a week unless there's something seriously wrong.
Besides, I do plan to add one minor update that is not on the list above, KB952679, as it replaces a file that already exists in the pack.
Huge thanks to Xable for hosting his Hotfix Share and everybody that posts them there.
EDIT: Additional update KB952679 to replace interim additional update KB951880. Next release changelog updated. |

I would do as you think best....you can only do so much in a day...I would think once a month as does RyanVM and RougeSpear with this kind of pack; I mean, one could probably release new update packs every couple of days...never ending and you would get tired really fast. One needs time to recreate, play DODs...pawn some players..LOL.
This pack for Win 64-bit, as is Rouge amd Ryan's endeavers for 32-bit, is a godsend
Gotta' get a new ISO built...talk later |

KB932699 is obsoleted by KB952206, which is in the pack.
KB933729 is obsoleted by KB952145, which is in the pack.
I'll look into the others, but they seem to be oriented more toward business use. I don't use IIS, and I don't join domains. |

Hi,
I discovered this topic today and I will try your add-on pack a.s.a.p.
Off topic: What a dark place Guys, can you made some skins for the board, coz is really difficult to read the posts.
Thanks! |

A red on white Detroit Red Wings hockey skin was made recently.
I've always been partial to darker skins, personally. I keep my PCs in dark areas and the brightness gets to me. Give me a good survival/horror PC game and I'm in heaven. |
