|
5eraph's Internet Explorer 8 Addon
Version: 2013-06_1
Goal:This addon slipstreams Internet Explorer 8 and its updates directly into an NT 5.2 x64 source. Details:- Intended for Windows XP/2003 x64 SP2, with or without localization via MUI packs (Addon).
- SP2 is required to use this addon. The following old SP1 files in the original installer have been omitted from v2009-03_x for compatibility with RVMi:
browseui.dll, shdocvw.dll and shlwapi.dll
wbrowseui.dll, wshdocvw.dll and wshlwapi.dll - All files are from the SP2QFE branch, where applicable.
- Tested in VirtualBox 4.2.12 throughout development.
- Tested with and without my update pack.
- Integrates with RyanVM Integrator 1.6 and nLite 1.4.9.1.
Credits:Downloads:Addon without updates or tweaks.
- Link: 5er_IE8_Addon_2009-03_5_x64.7z
Size: 23.1 MB
MD5: 909efe123c4fc3776a044eda84c9993b
Addon with updates, without tweaks.

Size: 24.8 MB
MD5: b483c08f835846ee95ad08a1781c2902
Tweaks INI including all my preferred tweaks. Requires an IE8 addon above.
Compress for use with nLite. (DETAILS)
- Link: entries_IE8Tweaks.ini
Size: 5.67 KB
MD5: e64a48d27b845af446670e82a421b4e1 Updates Included in v2013-06_1:Note: Bulleted updates can be verified with QFECheck, if it exists on your system.
High Priority Updates:- KB2706045 - MS12-056 - JScript and VBScript Scripting Engines v5.8
- KB2838727 - MS13-047 - Internet Explorer - Cumulative
Additional Updates:KB2293762 - ConnectRetries registry fix (machine-wide)
- KB2598845 - Compatibility View list update (October 25, 2011)
Notes:All tweaks previously included within the IE8 addon have been removed and placed in entries_IE8Tweaks.ini. Integrate the INI as is to include all my preferred tweaks—they're fully commented and tested—or edit as you see fit. Tweaks must be in INF format and will be applied to all users.
The following files and their WoW64 equivalents from the IE6 cumulative update have been added to the updated addon since v2012-02_1 to replace almost all of the SP1 files included in the original installer. This was done for completeness as well as to include the fix for the functionality described in KB972582. The inclusion of these files has been tested off and on for over a year with no ill effects. Please let me know if you have any difficulties.
browseui.dll ..- Replaces SP1 file included in original installer.
ieencode.dll ..- Not included with IE8 but added as part of the IE6 cumulative update.
mshtml6.dll ...- Replaces original IE6 file used until T-13. Original filename: mshtml.dll
pngfilt6.dll .....- Replaces original IE6 file used until T-13. Original filename: pngfilt.dll
shdocvw.dll ...- Replaces SP1 file included in original installer.
w03a3409.dll - Not included with IE8 and not an IE6 file but the IE6 update usually has and needs the latest version.
The SP1 file shlwapi.dll and its WoW64 equivalent are included in the original installer but are not actually IE files. They are still not included in either addon. The latest version can be found in security update KB975713 which is included in the update pack.

[2010/03/23 23:30 UTC] - 2009-03_4 and 2010-03_1
Both addons were made more compatible with Windows 2003 x64.- XP-specific IE.inf has been removed in favor of directly editing the existing file in the source through [ExtraFileEdits].
- Enhanced Security Configuration (IE Hardening) now functions correctly in Windows 2003.
- Corrected the following error in SetupErr.log when installing Windows 2003:
| Code: | Error:
Setup was unable to process some components because of the following error in section DefaultInstall of information file ie.inf:
The system cannot find the file specified. |
Updates specific to v2010-03_1:
[2010/02/24 07:00 UTC] - 2010-02_1
[2010/01/26 19:45 UTC] - 2010-01_2

[2009/12/10 19:00 UTC] - 2009-03_3 and 2009-12_1
INF code cleanup in both addons.- Simpler MOVE commands are used for delayed file replacement instead of "PendingFileRenameOperations". As consequences, the files are replaced earlier—at T-13 instead of first logon—and the files are renamed independently of other pending system file rename operations. (Thanks again, YumeYao.
)
- All line indentation (whitespace) has been removed. This should make the file somewhat smaller. nLite should no longer find whitespace to remove; therefore, it should no longer need to edit almost every line of the file.
 Updates specific to v2009-12_1:
[2009/11/08 01:20 UTC] - 2009-10_2
[2009/10/14 22:45 UTC] - 2009-10_1

[2009/06/25 09:35 UTC] - 2009-06_3
[2009/06/14 13:30 UTC] - 2009-03_1 and 2009-06_2
v2009-03_1 released containing no updates or tweaks. All tweaks removed from IE8 addons.- entries_IE8Tweaks.ini now applies all tweaks I prefer and can be easily edited to suit.
[2009/06/10 11:25 UTC] - 2009-06_1
High priority update KB969897 added.
Added a disabled tweak to prevent the prompt to install Windows Search 4 when typing in the address bar.

[2009/05/18 02:00 UTC] - 2009-05_2
"Web Slice Gallery" and "Suggested Sites" links in the Links Bar now work correctly. (Thanks again, Sereby. )
Corrections to special folders attributes code. (Thanks, OnePiece. )
Added [NeededComponents] section to entries*.ini for better nLite compatibility. (Thanks, johnhc and Sereby. )
Enhanced "Add or Remove Programs" code to show proper icon.
Added better disabled tweaks to [Tweaks.AddReg] and removed tweaks that don't work.

Well, you are "tha bomb" now 5eraph.
Does this addon have all of the latest IE8 updates? If so, I will see which one takes up less space (yours or the nlite method). _________________ A mind is like a parachute, it only functions when it is open.

As far as I know, only a couple Compatibility View list updates have been released to update IE8. I have included the latest one.
I don't anticipate any further updates to IE8 today.
nLite 1.4.9.1 cannot directly slipstream the IE8 installer. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have created this addon. |

Hello 5eraph, congratulations, very good addon
however I know the Riggi are incorrect
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",,,"%10%"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FOLDER1,,"Downloaded Program Files,1"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FILE1,,"Downloaded Program Files\desktop.ini,6"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FOLDER2,,"Offline Web Pages,1"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FILE2,,"Offline Web Pages\desktop.ini,6"
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=91529#91529
I believe the correct Riggi are
; OCCACHE.DLL Register
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",,,"%10%"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FOLDER1,,"Downloaded Program Files,4"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FILE1,,"Downloaded Program Files\desktop.ini,2"
; WEBCHECK.DLL Register
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FOLDER2,,"Offline Web Pages,4"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RenameFiles\Win",FILE2,,"Offline Web Pages\desktop.ini,2"
I at least use them and are ok.
Ciao. |

I don't see those differences either.
But I have noticed something strange at the command prompt when using Attrib.exe on those folders and files. Windows has set them according to your specifications (Folders=S, Files=H), not the ones I specified (Folders=R, Files=HS). I'll make the changes locally, but I see no point in releasing an updated addon now for a problem that fixes itself. They'll be in the next release.
Thanks for bringing it to my attention. |

You're welcome.
Expect an update for this month's Patch Tuesday. Microsoft appears to have a critical fix on the way for all versions of IE. |

Boy, I'll tell ya'; from the advance notification, you sure have your work cut out for you. I don't think they will have left any part of anything unturned-OS, Office or IE. This must be one of the biggest patch Teusday's they have posted; if not the biggest...GROAN!!!!
By-the bye 5eraph, I'm not much of a coder, but, if you require any help etc. testing anything just post or PM me, us "noncoders" are willing to help any way we can-anything at all; don't be shy..... |

Don't worry about that RickSteele, us "noncoders" (or at least semi partial coders) are here to volunteer. Since using an x86-64 bit OS, it makes supporting 5eraph more interesting (or at least possible). _________________ A mind is like a parachute, it only functions when it is open.

Yes, no doubt; wasn't worried, or implying anything; just reitterating the obvious. |

@ 5eraph
5er_IE8_Addon_2009-06_1_x64.7z ran flawlessly, all tweaks I included at the end of the inf applied; iso made entirely with nlite.
5er_IE8_Addon_2009-06_2_x64.7z : IE 8 integrates fine, but, none of the tweaks were applied and I added my custom tweaks exactly the same as in 5er_IE8_Addon_2009-06_1_x64.7z-in 5erIE8.inf; this time all addons were integrated with Integrator 1.6, nlite was solely used for driver integration and tweaks-nothing removed.
Did I do something wrong, the 5erIE8.inf does not seem to differ from before in the application of "runonces...." for the reg tweaks?; or is this an Integrator\nlite incompatability do you think? |

I have a couple questions:- Did you use the Tweaks INI? If so, did you add your tweaks before or after integrating the INI?
- Can you upload the integrated 5erIE8.in_ file somewhere I could download so that I may have a look?

No, I extracted the addon, inserted all my tweaks in 5erIE8.inf under [Tweaks.AddReg], repacked the addon and integrated it.
I know I've done something wrong here; am I supposed to integrate the ini in inf format after the addon rather than including the lines in 5erIE8.inf?
- Can you upload the integrated 5erIE8.in_ file somewhere I could download so that I may have a look?

I removed the %TWEAKS% string from v2009-06_2. You can change your tweaks to remove their dependence on that string, or you can add the following line to the [Strings] section:
| Code: | TWEAKS = "Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer" |
Or, you can use the Tweaks INI as a template for your own tweaks, but you must remove your string dependency if you wish to do so. This will save you from repacking the addon for every release.
EDIT: The following file contains your tweaks, RickSteele. It can be used with IE8 addon v2009-06_2 or later. |

Ohhh, I see; never thought to look at the [Strings] section.
Simply awesome, thanks 5eraph ; I downloaded the ini file and saved it.
So, now I just browse to, and integrate, the ini file with either Integrator or nlite after the addon then? |

| Note to nLite users: KB971961 must be slipstreamed after either of these IE8 addons. |

works like a charm; until you get rolling again I just use your IE8 Update pack without updates, slipstream all packs with Integrator , then, slipstream the current updates using nlite afterwards.
Thanks mawn! |

You're welcome.
Barring further complications I should be able to get back to business here by next Patch Tuesday thanks to members stevec4 and BuildSmart—I can't thank them enough.
This addon will probably be updated before the update pack since it's easier with fewer updates. Though catching up with all of the updates released since June may cause me to be a bit late with the next releases.
Oh, and a fix will be included for IE8's Quick Launch issue. Thanks to Kurt_Aust and johnhc for both PMing me concerning the issue. |

Updated to 2009-09_1. Please read the Changelog for full details.
If Microsoft keeps with their schedule of IE updates every other month then we can expect v2009-09_1 to be very short-lived... |

The fix for quick launch is to create the dir before 'regsvr32.exe /s /n /i:U shell32.dll' runs _________________

Correct, just create the empty dir (or you can delay the Active Setup til after the IE quicklaunch shortcut is created, this has no problem with no ql dir) _________________

Yes, yumeyao.
The following code works for me, ricktendo64. I borrowed the "trick" from your nLite addon.
| Code: | [Optional Components]
IExplore8
[IExplore8]
[..]
RegisterDLLs = QuickLaunchFix.Execute
[..]
[QuickLaunchFix.Execute] ; Thanks, Kurt_Aust.
11,,cmd.exe,,,"/q /c MkDir ""%%AllUsersProfile%%\..\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch""" |

I prefer to use RegisterDLLs instead of RunOnce(Ex) because RegisterDLLs will hide any ugly cmd windows
BTW MrNxDmX showed me this easy bug fix _________________

| MediaFire seems to be down temporarily. I can't even log on. If it isn't fixed in 30 minutes then I'll make other temporary arrangements. Feel free to make a host suggestion in the meantime, or PM me your email address and I'll send the requested files directly to you as soon as possible. |

| Just as I was about to sign up for ADrive, MediaFire starts working. Please let me know of any other access difficulties. My yearly subscription to MediaFire is almost up and I'd like to know if other providers may be better suited to our needs. |
