Critical pre Service Pack 4 for Windows XP SP3 English
This Update Pack contains only critical updates for Windows XP Professional (Home) which were published since SP3 and untill 2/15/2012.
The new version of Critical Pre SP4 was released in February for the English Windows XP SP3 (which included WMP11 with updates). Unlike previous versions, the new one (besides all the critical updates) includes WMP11 with all necessary security updates.
The reason for that is the desire to improve the functionality and reduce the size at the same time. In 2009 the updated version of WMP11 was released (there were some security fixes in it) and that let me reduce the size of the package. The inclusion of that version of WMP11 let me delete 4 hot-fixes from the package and optimize 5 more fixes only for WMP11. As a result the size of the pre service-pack turned out to be even smaller than 60mb. Also, the changes affected KB890830 (MRT), in other words - it was replaced with a Registry tweak. I do think that users who are familiar with the abilities of MRT understand that an advanced antivirus and regular protection are essential for the full protection of Windows XP. And you can use more sophisticated scanner for the one-time (once a month, as MS does) antivirus check (e.g. Kaspersky, Dr.Web, ESET, Avira and so on).

Here's some information on how the script of my Update Pack works. This may be interesting not for everyone, but it is here so that you can make sure that my Update Pack wouldn't make harm to your OS setup.
Okay, so let's start:
1. Just after the launch of the setup.exe the script starts to learn more about your OS: its current service pack, versions of some apps like IE or Windows Messenger etc. You can watch the process in console.
2. Then the script learns more about some branches in registre and makes a list of installed updates (so that it won't install the same update twice).
3. The third step is the actual installation of necessary updates.
4. If the install succeeds all you need is just to restart and you are done. But if there are any installations errors the script would log all of them in a separate text file.
The log of installation process is saved in a text file called Critical_ENU.log.
If you used service pack with the "clean" version of Windows XP, you will need to install only these updates:

You should use my update pack with pre-installed Windows XP SP3. |

I have tried the links at least four times aver two days:
The top download link takes me to page that says I must wait 600 seconds to, maybe, download the software using 'regular' - I did not want to wait or pay for a 'faster' download
The second download link takes me to a page that says, in English, wait 60 seconds for a 'regular' download or pay for a faster download. When the 60 seconds are up a bar appears that says it is a link to the downwload - clicking on it takes me to a page that is all in Russian and no way to determine what to do to downwload.

ChiefZeke, I'm not sure what you did "wrong". Both links worked fine for me. For the "top" link I had to do a captcha type of character entry, and wait 60 seconds, then the link worked. For the "bottom" one, I had to wait 60 seconds, then when clicking the link the download began, no transfer to any other page at all. I would guess the page that came up for you was some kind of ad page. I'm just guessing based on what has happened to me in the past, that if you just closed that page the download box would have been underneath it. Out of curiosity, what browser and what antivirus/firewall are you using? I was using IRON, a Chrome derivative, on Win7, and COMODO Internet Security Premium when I had my successes, if that helps you at all. The download using turbobit was not what you would call fast, but completed with no issues. I didn't let the letitbit download complete, since the other one worked, so I can't comment on its speed.
Cheers and Regards |

I was here checking things using Win7 64-bit with IE8 and Microsoft Security Essentials 2 and thought I'd try again. Selected the 'top' item and, this time, 60 second delay after code typed into box - downloading now at 55kb.
Previously; XP Pro w/SP3 , IE6, ZoneAlarm Pro. |

dumpydooby, as I understand the use of this pack, in a way it's similar in effect to using AutoPatcher, for use on an installed live system all in one step with no choices required, but I could be wrong.

The new version of Critical Pre SP4 11.1.2 was released in January for the English Windows XP SP3 (which included WMP11 with updates).
In conclusion, I'd like to say that I'm not going to support several versions of Critical Pre SP4 for Windows XP SP3 Pro (Home). I will choose one or two, which are the most optimal to my mind. |
